Witchy Homemade Gifts for Yule Solstice or Secular Christmas
As I noted on Tuesday, we’ve decorated at our house, so it’s time for me to ramp up my gift making. The holiday season is a wonderful opportunity to weave a little magic into handmade gifts for your loved ones. Whether you're celebrating the Solstice, Yule, or simply embracing the cozy vibes of a secular Christmas, gifts made with care, intention, and a dash of witchy charm are bound to delight. Here are some ideas, including edible goodies, that bring warmth and love to the season.
Homemade Fudge and Cookies
Nothing warms the heart like treats crafted with love and care. My husband takes cookies and fudge that I make to his coworkers every year.
My Favorite Peanut Butter Marshmallow Fudge Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup evaporated milk
4 cups sugar
3 ½ oz. marshmallow crème (1/2 of a 7 oz jar)
¼ cup butter
2 tsp vanilla
1 ½ C of peanut butter
Steps:
Butter the bottom and sides of a heavy-bottomed pan before putting any ingredients in to cook. (My “fudge pan” is literally older than me; my parents got it for a wedding present. The handles are broken off, but it has the toughest bottom and heats the best, no matter what else I try.)
Combine sugar and milk.
Cook over medium heat until boiling. (Stir often.)
Boil (without stirring) until it reaches a soft ball stage (about 5 minutes).
“Soft ball stage” is when you spoon a tiny bit into a coffee cup full of cold water, and you can roll the candy into a ball in that water. If the ball doesn’t stick together, it’s not ready yet.
Remove from heat.
Add vanilla, marshmallow crème, peanut butter, and butter (stirring only). (I premeasure all of this and put it into a bowl together, so it is ready to go when I need it.)
Pour into a buttered 13x9 dish. (A glass cake pan is perfect, but metal ones work too.)
Refrigerate. Don’t skip. It can take a few hours to set up. It’s worth the wait.
How to Add a Witchy Touch to Edible Gifts
Use Magical Ingredients: Research the symbolic meanings of your ingredients and incorporate their magic into your baking or cooking. For example:
Chocolate = love and happiness
Cinnamon = warmth, protection, and abundance
Peppermint = clarity and energy
Add Sigils or Symbols: Draw simple sigils for love or joy on cookie tins or fudge wrappers.
Bless the Food: As you bake or cook, focus on your intentions, visualizing your love and care infusing the treats. You can whisper a little incantation as you stir, like:
“By spoon and bowl, this love I blend,
To bring warmth and joy to hearts I send.”
Intention Candles
Nothing says “witchy” like candles made with care and magic.
What You’ll Need:
Soy wax or beeswax
Wicks
Essential oils (choose scents aligned with your intention—lavender for peace, orange for joy, etc.)
Herbs, crystals, or dried flowers for decoration
Small jars or tins
Instructions: Melt the wax, add a few drops of essential oil, and pour it into your container with the wick. Sprinkle in dried herbs like rosemary for protection or chamomile for calm before the wax sets. Once hardened, gift these candles with a note explaining their magical intent.
Note: don’t put too many dried herbs at the top of the candle. I’ve seen one burn up / catch those on fire when the maker was overzealous with herbs.
Herb-Infused Salts or Sugars
These pair beautifully with homemade cookies or fudge, offering a sweet or savory magical touch to your loved ones' kitchens.
What You’ll Need:
Coarse sea salt or granulated sugar
Dried herbs (rosemary, thyme, lavender, mint, etc.)
Glass jars
Instructions: Mix the salt or sugar with finely crushed herbs. Let it sit in an airtight container for a week to infuse the flavors. These make excellent gifts for kitchen witches or foodie friends, perfect for seasoning dishes or sweetening tea.
Witchy Bath Soaks
What You’ll Need:
Epsom salt or Himalayan salt
Baking soda (optional, but helps create “fizz”)
Essential oils
Dried herbs or flowers
Instructions: Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, infusing your intentions for relaxation or healing. Package them in glass jars or sachets with a label like "Moonlit Bath Blend" or "Calm Waters Soak."
Pair these with fudge or cookies or candles to create a themed care package. For example: “Relaxation Bundle” with lavender bath soaks, chamomile tea, and soft sugar cookies. The photo is awful, fluorescent lighting, but here’s an example of one I made that includes bath soaks, treats, a candle, a customized journal, and a plant (because I always have enough of those to share / start babies from).
Hand-Stamped Stationery and Customized Journals
Give the gift of inspiration with handmade writing tools that are perfect for journaling, spellwork, or everyday musings.
What You’ll Need for Stationery:
Blank stationery, cardstock, or parchment paper
Stamps and ink pads (look for celestial, botanical, or magical designs)
Dried flowers, washi tape, or decorative stickers
Twine or ribbon for bundling
Instructions:
Use stamps to add enchanting designs—stars, moons, herbs, or sigils—along the edges of the paper.
Press dried flowers or use washi tape to add an extra layer of decoration.
Bundle the sheets into a set with twine or ribbon, creating a charming presentation.
What You’ll Need for Customized Journals:
Plain hardcover or softcover journals
Acrylic paint, metallic pens, or markers
Stamps, stickers, and embellishments (like crystals or pressed flowers)
Mod Podge or clear sealant (optional)
Instructions:
Personalize the cover of the journal with painted designs, hand-drawn sigils, or stamped patterns. Metallic pens are great for adding magical flair, like constellations or rune-inspired symbols. I like to add decorative paper and customized stickers. I’ve talked some about my love of paper crafting here. And here is a magical junk journal I created.
Add stickers, pressed flowers, or even small crystal accents for texture.
Seal the design with Mod Podge or a clear spray sealant if needed, and let it dry completely.
Make It Magical:
Include a small note inside the journal or stationery set with suggestions for use: journaling intentions, manifesting goals, or recording dreams.
Consider pairing the journal with a pen wrapped in decorative ribbon or a spell jar for creativity to encourage its use.
These handmade journals and stationery sets make wonderful gifts for fellow witches, creatives, or anyone who loves to write and dream.
Magical Keepsake Ornaments
Infuse your loved one’s holiday décor with magic.
What You’ll Need:
Clear glass or plastic ornaments
Dried herbs, glitter, tiny charms, or ribbon
Paint pens (optional)
Instructions: Fill each ornament with a mix of herbs, glitter, or small trinkets that align with your intention. Use paint pens to draw sigils or symbols on the outside. Hang on the tree or gift them as personalized charms.
I like to fill those ball ornaments with good-smelling herbs and spells of intention for the recipient. I also try to get crafty and make other ornaments, like these non-witchy ones I made several years ago. After the holidays, I’ll try to remember to share the ones I’m making this year:
My great grandmother hand crocheted a bunch of snowflakes for my first adult Christmas tree, and I still put them on every year. It’s an important tradition for me, and a way to honor her.
And this year, I hope to make some of those cinnamon applesauce ornaments with my grandson. I love homemade ornaments.
There are so many crafts and so little time! Whether it’s sweet treats, crafted creations, or a combination of both, your homemade gifts will carry the power of your love and intention. Pair fudge with a spell jar, cookies with a custom tea blend, or hot cocoa with a keepsake ornament for a gift that warms the heart and spirit. Truly, whatever you like to make will give someone a smile.
